யாமறிந்த மொழிகளிலே தமிழ் மொழி போல்
இனிதாவது எங்கும் காணோம்;

           Inidhaavadhu engum kaaNOm;

[Among all the languages that I've known,
there's none as sweet as Tamil;]

பாமரராய், விலங்குகளாய், உலகனைத்தும்
இகழ்ச்சி சொல பான்மை கெட்டு,
நாமம் அது தமிழரென கொண்டு இங்கு
வாழ்ந்திடுதல் நன்றோ? சொல்லீர்!

Paamararaai, vilangugaLaai, ulaganaithum

           Igazhchi sola paanmai kettu,

Naamam adhu thamizharena koNdu ingu

          Vaazhndhidudhal NandrO? Solleer!

[After losing our traditional wealth, and being condemned

by the world as illiterates and animals,

Is it good to still retain our name as Tamilians?]

தேமதுர தமிழோசை உலகமெலாம்
பரவும் வகை செய்தல் வேண்டும்.

Thaemadhura thamizhOsai ulagamelaam

          Paravum vagai seithal vaendum.

[We should spread the sound of Tamil,

which is as sweet as honey, to this entire earth]

யாமறிந்த புலவரிலே கம்பனை போல்,
வள்ளுவர் போல், இளங்கோவை போல்,
பூமி தனில் யாங்கணுமே பிறந்ததில்லை,
உண்மை, வெறும் புகழ்ச்சி இல்லை;

YaamaRindha pulavarilae Kambanai pOl,

          VaLLuvar pOl, ILangOvai pOl,

Boomi thanil yaangaNumae piRanthathillai,

          UNmai, veRum pugazhchi illai;

[Among all the poets that I've known,

there's none equivalent to Kambar, Valluvar or Elango,

This is the fact and not just a praise;]

ஊமையராய் செவிடர்களாய் குருடர்களாய்
வாழ்கின்றோம்; ஒரு சொல் கேளீர்!
சேமமுற வேண்டுமெனில் தெருவெல்லாம்
தமிழ் முழக்கம் செழிக்க செய்வீர்!

Oomaiyaraai sevidargaLaai kurudargaLai

          VaazhgindrOm; oru sol kaeLeer!

SaemamuRa vaeNdumenil theruvellaam

          Thamizh muzhakkam sezhikka seiyveer!

[We're all living the lives of deaf, dumb and blind;

Listen to my words, our only way to prosperity

is by propagating the goodness of Tamil

on every roads and streets!]

பிறநாட்டு நல்லறிஞர் சாத்திரங்கள்
தமிழ் மொழியில் பெயர்த்தல் வேண்டும்;
இறவாத புகழுடைய புது நூல்கள்
தமிழ் மொழியில் இயற்றல் வேண்டும்;

PiRaNaattu NallaRignar saaththirangaL

          Thamizh mozhiyil peyarththal vaeNdum;

IRavaadha pugazhudaiya pudhu NoolgaL

          Thamizh mozhiyil iyatral vaeNdum;

[Works of famous scholars from abroad have to be translated to Tamil;

Unborrowed yet commendable books must be created in Tamil;]

மறைவாக நமக்குள்ளே பழங்கதைகள்
சொல்வதிலோர் மகிமை இல்லை;
திறமான புலமை எனில் வெளி நாட்டோர்
அதை வணக்கம் செய்தல் வேண்டும்.

MaRaivaaga NamakkuLLae pazhangathaigaL

          SolvathilOr magimai illai;

ThiRamaana pulamai enil veLi NaattOr

          Adhai vaNakkam seithal vaeNdum.

[There's no use in talking old stories amongst ourselves;

If we have a poetic talent, then it has to be respected

by us and the foreigners as well.]

உள்ளத்தில் உண்மை ஒளி உண்டாயின்
வாக்கினிலே ஒளி உண்டாகும்;

ULLaththil uNmai oLi uNdaayin

          Vaakkinilae oLi uNdaagum;

[When we plant the ray of truth in our heart,

it will reflect in our speech too;]

வெள்ளத்தின் பெருக்கை போல் கலை பெருக்கும்
கவி பெருக்கும் மேவு மாயின்,
பள்ளத்தில் வீழ்ந்திருக்கும் குருடரெல்லாம்
விழி பெற்று பதவி கொள்வார்;

VeLLaththin perukkai pOl kalai perukkum

          Kavi perukkum maevu maayin,

PaLLaththil veezhndhirukkum kurudarellaam

          Vizhi petru padhavi koLvaar;

[Like a flood's enormity, if we are able to create

an avalanche of artworks and poems,

Then the blind men who are living in depths of ignorance

will all get enlightened;]

தெள்ளுற்ற தமிழ் அமுதின் சுவை கண்டார்
இங்கு அமரர் சிறப்பு கண்டார்.

TheLLutra thamizh amudhin suvai kaNdaar

          Ingu amarar siRappu kaNdaar.

[Those who have tasted the sweet nectar Tamil

have attained the esteem of Gods and Demigods on earth!]
